A Call for More Humor in Poems

Seems people these days do no longer rave that poetry's greater than prose
And my common line for the poem's decline is: poems are just so morose!

Now I have no quarrels 'bout poems with morals,
but I think it quite a bit much.
When poetic verse has the air of a hearse,
and never is clever or such.

Humor does lighten, but these poems frighten,
which seemingly is their sole mission.
They try to use fear
to get us to hear
the state of the human condition.

This no longer works, and frankly it irks
me when it is used as a tactic.
If poets used humor, they'd maybe find sooner,
Their musings to be more climactic.

So my vital plea, to all those who see
is to make pleasant poems abound.
'Cause it's better to make
a stanza equate to a smile,
instead of a frown.
Hopefully not offensive. Take it as you will.
